Interface terminology
Look up an English control name, or search from the guide home. Follow the link below a definition for the instructions.
- Automatic
- Automatic input settings for use without a dedicated ICC. Color management remains active, but this is not a custom calibration of your equipment.
Input color (advanced, optional) → - Rendered photograph / Transparency scan
- Select how an RGB source has been processed: a finished photograph and data still treated as a film-transmission capture need different settings. Check the scanning or export history.
Input color (advanced, optional) → - Gain / Offset / Shadows / Highlights
- Negative Gain adjusts density span and Offset its overall placement; Shadows/Highlights refine tonal regions, not input or roll calibration.
Adjust density, white balance, and tone → - Pick Neutral Area / Put Back Pipette
- Pick a neutral region with the White Balance pipette, click its dock again to exit, and undo a bad pick.
Adjust density, white balance, and tone → - Include existing files / RGB arrival order
- The hot-folder option for preexisting files; RGB watching groups by arrival order, unlike ordinary filename-sorted import.
Receive new images with a hot folder → - Add Selected / Arrange / Remove from Table
- Add selected photographs to the Light Table board, arrange them, or remove a placement. Removing a placement does not delete the project frame or original.
View images in Light Table → - Peak Brightness
- The HDR export rendering target, not measured screen brightness or overall exposure; choose for the receiver.
View and export HDR → - .softloaf / Save Project / Open Project
- Save/reopen the complete project directory bundle and retain external sources separately; do not copy or edit just one internal file.
Save projects and manage cache → - Size / Long Edge / Percent
- Long Edge sets the longer dimension in pixels; 50% halves each dimension, not total pixel count.
Export images → - Prefix / Suffix / Use original filename
- Using the original filename ignores the suffix but retains the prefix; inspect Example before export.
Export images → - dmin / Minimum density
- The film’s minimum density includes base, stain, and fog and is not zero. Check the app’s estimated low-density reference against the source.
Understand dmin, dmax, and characteristic curves → - dmax / Maximum density
- The film’s physical maximum differs from the app’s estimated high-density roll reference. The latter is not an arbitrary darkest pixel or a required output white point.
Understand dmin, dmax, and characteristic curves → - Characteristic curve / Toe / Shoulder
- The relationship between original exposure and developed density, with flatter end regions. Distinct from a grading curve; a negative schematic does not directly describe reversal.
Understand dmin, dmax, and characteristic curves → - Spectral crosstalk / CFA
- Here, mixed illumination contributions across channels, not electrical leakage. Overlap alone proves neither information loss nor color error. CFA means the sensor’s color filter array.
Understand Trichrome capture → - Narrowband / Bandwidth
- Light concentrated over a limited wavelength range; center wavelength and width affect measurement, not the RGB label alone.
Understand Trichrome capture → - Transmittance / Optical density
- Transmittance is the transmitted fraction; density is its negative logarithm. Taking the log of a broadband sum differs from averaging spectral densities.
Understand dmin, dmax, and characteristic curves → - Trichrome
- Three R/G/B captures of the same film position composed into one input frame, not a demasking method.
Understand Trichrome capture → - Sensor / Bayer / Monochrome
- Choose according to the actual capture hardware; a monochrome picture style is not a monochrome sensor.
Import RGB triplets → - RGB triplet / Logical frame
- Three source images ordered R, G, B combine into one frame. For example, 12 source files should produce four composite frames.
Capture and organize RGB triplets → - Order
- Set the actual color order of three files in the CCM wizard and check the R, G, B labels. This does not change ordinary Trichrome import grouping.
Create a Trichrome CCM → - Registration
- Align matching features at the same position in all three exposures. Composition and chart Auto Align do not automatically register the source images.
Capture and organize RGB triplets → - Contact Sheet
- A thumbnail overview for browsing, selecting, and inspecting a roll.
Your first project: import, edit, and export → - Viewer
- The workspace for one image; the current frame is not necessarily the batch target.
Your first project: import, edit, and export → - Filmstrip
- The frame sequence in the Viewer, including current and selected frames.
Your first project: import, edit, and export → - Selected frames
- The selected set used for a batch or export; check its count before proceeding.
Your first project: import, edit, and export → - Preparing Thumbnails / Calibrating
- Processing stages; wait for completion before assessing the final result.
Your first project: import, edit, and export → - Input Color
- The interpretation of source color data, not a monitor profile or creative filter.
Input color (advanced, optional) → - RAW device profile / RGB file profile
- Separate input interpretation for RAW device data and RGB files.
Input color (advanced, optional) → - CCM
- Calibrate the capture setup’s color response with a known chart. Use it with the matching camera and light; it is not a film-style filter.
Create and apply a CCM profile → - Card ID
- The physical card identity, checked against the card rather than only the filename.
Create and apply a CCM profile → - APD / Status M
- Different target responses for negative CCM fitting, not creative presets.
Create and apply a CCM profile → - TL / TR / BR / BL
- The chart corner-order labels.
Create and apply a CCM profile → - Test Fit
- Test a correction using the current chart and sample boxes. Check the ID, orientation, and sample positions first.
Create and apply a CCM profile → - MSE Before / After
- An error summary for this fit, not a guarantee of visual accuracy for all images.
Create and apply a CCM profile → - Off-diagonal
- A cross-channel correction summary, not a standalone pass/fail threshold.
Create and apply a CCM profile → - Save / Save and Apply
- Store the profile, or store it and apply it to the current project.
Create and apply a CCM profile → - Flat-field Calibration
- Correct spatial nonuniformity using a matching uniform reference; it cannot recover clipped detail.
Build flat-field correction → - Lens Geometry
- Correct geometric distortion independently of white balance and flat-field correction.
Correct lens distortion → - Auto matched / Not applied
- A candidate profile was found; the correction is not necessarily active.
Correct lens distortion → - Calibration Area
- Choose which areas are used for negative analysis. This does not crop the finished photograph; use Crop for output framing.
Set the negative Calibration Area → - Apply to All
- Apply the current operation to every frame. Check that the same settings suit the other photographs first.
Copy and apply settings in batches → - Crop / Straighten
- Set final framing and small-angle leveling, independently of analysis areas.
Crop and straighten images → - Convert OFF / ON
- A negative appearance with conversion off is normal, not source corruption.
Choose a negative conversion method → - Curve / dmin+dmax
- Roll methods based on curve estimation and density anchors, respectively.
Choose a negative conversion method → - Color Chart
- Use a marked in-roll chart reference; this is distinct from CCM.
Use a chart reference within a roll → - Per-frame / Per-frame AE
- Independent frame fitting versus exposure adjustment after shared roll conversion.
Choose a negative conversion method → - Exclude from Roll Calibration
- Exclude a reference from roll analysis without deleting the source or deselecting export.
Choose a negative conversion method → - Density Curve
- A manual density adjustment, not the Curve conversion method.
Adjust density, white balance, and tone → - White Balance / Temp. / Tint
- Adjust neutral balance without replacing input-profile validation.
Adjust density, white balance, and tone → - View / Frame View
- Set the rendering and check it separately from input and output spaces.
Choose a View and use LUTs → - Scene Ref. / Display Ref.
- Apply a Look or LUT before or after the viewing transform, respectively. Match the color space and encoding required by the LUT.
Choose a View and use LUTs → - LUT
- Color mapping data with defined input and output domains.
Choose a View and use LUTs → - Film Perforations
- Perforation rendering/sampling; identification and manual sampling are separate states.
Retain and render negative perforations → - HDR / SDR
- High and standard dynamic range. HDR viewing requires support from the file, system, viewer, and display.
View and export HDR → - Gain map / Target Peak
- Additional HDR image data and a rendering target, not overall exposure.
View and export HDR → - Light Table / Single Photo / Table
- Viewing modes, not a substitute for image processing or export.
View images in Light Table → - Export Selected
- Export the selected set, which need not equal the current frame or whole roll.
Export images → - File Format / Bit Depth
- The file type and numerical precision of each color channel. Available bit depths depend on the format.
Export images → - Output Color Space / Output Summary
- Check actual file color settings and ICC, not just the preview name.
Export images → - Destination / Choose
- Select a writable destination before starting export.
Export images → - On name conflict / Skip
- Skip leaves existing same-named target files unchanged.
Export images → - Cache / Clear Cache
- Rebuildable processing data, not a source backup; clearing may require regeneration.
Save projects and manage cache →
